A streamlined pathway for transcatheter aortic valve implantation

The BENCHMARK study

Recent publication

Aiming to reduce the length of stay in hospital and in intensive care for patients with severe aortic stenosis, an international working group has developed eight procedures that have been summarised under the name BENCHMARK best practices. The Division of Internal Medicine 3 at St. Pölten University Hospital with Prof Dr Julia Mascherbauer as the head of the Division was involved in the BENCHMARK study with a total of 2388 analysed patient data. The study compared the length of stay in hospital and in the intensive care unit as well as the safety of patients who had to undergo transcatheter aortic valve implantation with and without the application of BENCHMARK best practices. The results of the BENCHMARK study have been published open access in the European Heart Journal.
