Entry requirements

The general entry requirements apply to all degree programmes.

Proof of general university entrance qualifications (school leaving certificate)

General university entrance qualifications can be proven by presenting one of the following certificates:

  • School leaving certificate (i.e. the Austrian Matura)
  • University entrance examination
  • University entrance examination for medical studies
  • International school leaving certificate (see International admissions) equivalent to an Austrian school leaving examination

For applicants who do not have an Austrian school leaving certificate, the regulations for international admission apply.

Further information on international certificates:

  • Authentication
Documents that were not issued in Austria (or another EU member state) are subject to authentication requirements.
If your documents were issued in another country, please refer to the information on authentication requirements (Higher education authentication list).
  • Translation
All documents not originally issued in English or German must be officially translated. Always have translations done after the authentication.

  • Equivalent international school leaving certificates
    International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
The IB Diploma is equivalent to the Austrian secondary school leaving certificate.

  • School leaving certificates from EU/EEA countries
If you have passed your secondary school leaving examination in a member state of the EU/EEA, this certificate is generally equivalent to an Austrian school leaving certificate if it grants you access to higher education in your chosen subject in your country of origin. These documents will be checked in the course of your application.

  • School leaving certificates from non-EU/EEA countries
If you have passed your secondary school leaving examination in a non-EU/EEA country, this certificate may not be equivalent to an Austrian school leaving certificate.
  • Equivalence check
In all cases, the equivalence of your secondary school leaving certificate will be checked as part of the processing of your application at KL.
