Selection process for Medical Studies
Selection process for the Bachelors programme in Medical Science.
The selection process for the Bachelors programme in Medical Science takes place in two stages. It is divided into a written test and an interview to which a number of applicants with high scores in the written test are invited. The number of applicants selected for an interview is decided each year. After the interview, the highest-ranked individuals are selected and granted admission to the Bachelors programme in Medical Science. This intensive process allows us to identify the best-qualified individuals from among the large number of applicants. The selection process is conducted in English.

For the written test, Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences uses a list of tasks and questions specially developed for KL by the German test development company ITB Consulting and adapted to the qualification profile of future students. It is an objective aptitude diagnostic test that poses the same questions to all applicants. The test assesses skills that are important for successful study. It does not require any specific knowledge. The focus is neither on specialist knowledge nor on the aspects of aptitude that are already reflected in the applicant's grades in their school leaving examinations.

The evaluation of the written test results takes about 10–14 days. The candidates who achieve the highest test results will be invited to an in-person interview.
This focuses on who you are as a person and your interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence (e.g. motivation, social skills, value-driven problem solving). You will be observed/interviewed as you handle six short scenarios posed by six different lecturers at Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences. Two of these scenarios will include an observed role play involving actors.
Example scenario
Every scenario starts with a brief introduction. For instance,
a man is caring for his wife, who has been in a coma for six years due to a car accident. She can breathe on her own but cannot move or communicate. He asks for her artificial feeding tube be removed. As her attending physician, what should you do?
In most scenarios, you are not expected to know the right answer or the best course of action from a medical standpoint, neither are you expected to know the correct legal course of action. You are, however, expected to give an opinion based on your values and to critically analyse and justify your views.
An observed role-play scenario might look like this:
While reversing your car, you have just run over your neighbour’s cat by accident. You have five minutes to communicate the bad news to your neighbour.
Selection process for the Masters programme in Human Medicine
Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (KL) offers all graduates of the Bachelors programme in Medical Science at KL the option of direct admission to the Masters programme in Human Medicine (without needing to go through the selection process from scratch), provided that they have appropriate evidence of knowledge of the German language (native speaker or level C1 according to the CEFR rating system).
Prospective students with considerable prior academic knowledge (holding an equivalent degree in Medical Science from a recognised higher education institution in Austria or abroad, with at least 180 ECTS credits) can also apply for a place on the programme (see Lateral Entry Medical Studies).

The selection process for the Bachelors programme in Psychology is conducted in the form of an in-person interview.
In-person interview for the Bachelors programme in Psychology
The selection process for the Bachelors programme in Psychology consists of (1) the application documents and (2) an in-person interview. Both parts are evaluated by the selection committee on the basis of a list of criteria. You can upload all the necessary documents to the OpenCampus application tool by the application deadline. Once your application documents have been checked, you can register for an interview. If you choose an interview date in May or June, you will receive the result of your admission procedure (acceptance, waiting list place or rejection) at the end of June. The last interview dates take place in mid-September.
An administration fee will be charged for the selection process. You will receive your personal payment information when you submit your application. The administration fee cannot be refunded. Only payments made on time and in full will be considered.
Selection process for Masters programme in Psychology
The selection process for the Masters programme in Psychology is conducted in the form of an in-person interview.
In-person interview for the Masters programme in Psychology

Following successful application and admission to the selection process, applicants will receive an appointment for the interview. The purpose of the interview is to get to know the candidates in person, discuss their suitability for the degree programme, answer any questions arising from the application documents, examine their motivation for studying the subject and check whether their expectations match the education offered by KL.
Allocation of university places
After applicants have been evaluated in the selection process, a committee decides on the allocation of places at the university. Applicants are notified in writing and given information about signing the learning agreement and matriculation. There is no right of appeal against this decision.
